How Does Our Outpatient Rehab in Massachusetts Work?

Our outpatient rehab in Massachusetts program is our least intensive level of care designed for people that want additional support in making healthy lifestyle choices. It also works well for those who have already completed a more intensive level of care and want the extra boost that outpatient rehab provides. Every level of care we offer, including outpatient, is based on our philosophy we call CURE. We treat each person with Compassion, Understanding, Respect, and Empathy.

When someone arrives at our facility, we evaluate them to understand their individual needs and establish treatment goals. Our comprehensive assessment starts with psychological and cognitive evaluations so we can better understand each person’s history with addiction, identify any co-occurring disorders that may affect their treatment, and place them in the appropriate care. We choose the types of therapy that best support the person’s needs and keep them focused on avoiding triggers that can lead to relapse.

What is an Evening IOP?

Lake Avenue Recovery centers our treatment services around a four-part philosophy we call CURE, which stands for Compassion, Understanding, Respect, and Empathy. We put this into action as part of our evening IOP to provide effective, compassionate care for people struggling with addiction to drugs or alcohol. We offer several types of therapy with an eye for using solution-focused holistic modalities that create opportunities for people to take back control of their lives.

Evening IOP offers multiple types of therapy sessions and provides any necessary medication-assisted treatment to help minimize withdrawal symptoms. The staff is composed of psychiatrists, and masters level clinicians who all employ their years of experience and training when treating people. IOP is often used after completing a residential or partial hospitalization program. It continues building on the lessons learned in these higher levels of treatment but requires less time when attending sessions. Completing IOP puts people in a strong position to move forward living a sober life without needing regular addiction-related therapies.

Components of Our Outpatient Rehab

Our outpatient rehab in Massachusetts features several therapeutic concepts that assist in teaching people to put their substance use disorders behind them.

We provide individual therapy to treat problems that can most effectively be addressed on a one-on-one basis or when clients are too fearful of groups to participate in them. Besides traditional talk therapy, we also provide alternative counseling methods such as art therapy, music therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR), and rapid resolution therapy.

We don’t believe that recovery from addiction can be achieved using a one-size-fits-all approach. Consequently, we provide individually customized, comprehensive, and coordinated multidisciplinary treatment plans that fit each person’s unique needs. This includes multiple services and modalities that emphasize a solution-focused approach to overcoming addiction.

Our treatment plan increases a person’s ability to function well in their personal lives and community. We also actively coordinate and promote access to peer and self-help group services.

What to Expect at our Outpatient Rehab

The types of care we specialize in that are part of our outpatient rehab include the following:

Co-regulation: This approach stresses the importance of “calming together” through a partner, family member, support group, or other supportive community outlets.  It helps normalize practicing coping skills independently and asking for help.

Attachment Theory: This addresses the profound and lasting bond between two or more people and how it impacts addiction and recovery.

Trauma Informed Care (TIC): A history of trauma often plays a part in someone developing a substance use disorder. TIC addresses the history and symptoms of trauma and promotes healing from it.

Triggers and the Body’s Alarm System: Understanding and regulating the brain’s natural Flight, Fight, or Freeze response helps people learn to feel safer and make healthy choices in recovery.

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy: These sessions help people open up about their emotions and experiences and identify patterns that need changing. Resolving these helps reduce triggers and promotes recovery-oriented choices.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): CBT examines how beliefs and thoughts are linked to behaviors and feelings. It teaches skills that help people learn positive mindsets and behaviors to help them navigate stressful situations.

Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT): IPT assesses how a disease, like addiction, can be triggered by situations involving relationships with others, such as a loss, arguments, or relocation. It helps the individual develop effective and safe coping mechanisms.

How Do I Know I'm A Good Candidate for Outpatient Rehab?

Outpatient treatment works well for people who have already completed higher levels of care but aren’t quite ready to conclude addiction treatment. A good candidate for going to outpatient rehab will meet these requirements:

  • Wants the freedom in their schedule to work, go to school, and meet family obligations while also attending treatment
  • Has a stable home environment and resources outside of outpatient care
  • Only need to attend therapy sessions for a few hours per week

Does Insurance Cover Outpatient Rehab?

Too often, people mistakenly believe that attending a vital program like outpatient rehab in Massachusetts is out of their reach because insurance doesn’t cover addiction treatment. Actually, many major insurance companies understand that substance use disorders are diseases and they provide coverage for a variety of levels of care.
