Man attending evening IOP in Massachusetts

Everyone who struggles with a substance use disorder deserves quality care that helps them overcome their disease. While many people are able to attend treatment sessions during the day, a lot of people need more flexible options. Our evening IOP programs make it easy for people who have daytime obligations to take care of those and then work on their recovery during evening sessions.

If you or a loved one need treatment for an addiction or mental health disorder, Lake Avenue Recovery can help. Visit our admissions page or call us today at (508) 794-4400 to get started.

What is an Evening IOP?

Lake Avenue Recovery centers our treatment services around a four-part philosophy we call CURE, which stands for Compassion, Understanding, Respect, and Empathy. We put this into action as part of our evening IOP programs to provide effective, compassionate care for people struggling with addiction to drugs or alcohol. We offer several types of therapy with an eye for using solution-focused holistic modalities that create opportunities for people to take back control of their lives.

Evening IOP offers multiple types of therapy sessions and provides any necessary medication-assisted treatment to help minimize withdrawal symptoms. The staff is composed of psychiatrists, and masters level clinicians who all employ their years of experience and training when treating people. Intensive outpatient programs are often used after completing a residential or day treatment program. It continues building on the lessons learned in these higher levels of treatment but requires less time when attending sessions.

Completing IOP puts people in a strong position to move forward living a sober life without needing regular addiction-related therapies. We also treat co-occurring mental health disorders, also called dual-diagnosis disorder.

Our Evening IOP Schedule

Our evening IOP meets up to four times per week from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and generally lasts from two to four weeks. The frequency of the sessions declines as each person develops community support and requires less treatment as they gain better control of their addiction. Our clinical staff will assess each person to determine their progress and any continuing needs they have as they move through the treatment program.

You are not alone. You deserve to get help.

Lake Avenue Recovery is an industry leader in addiction treatment in Massachusetts. Our team of top medical experts specialize in dual diagnosis treatment and are committed to ensuring that each patient is treated as an individual. Call us today, we’re available 24/7.

Benefits of Evening IOP Programs

We created our evening IOP plan because we know how vital this level of care is for so many people. Our staff helps people take a hard look at what contributed to developing their addiction and how to replace urges to drink alcohol or use drugs with healthy coping skills.

The methods we teach can be used long after treatment concludes, which sets up a person for lifelong sobriety.

Evening treatment sessions fit well into the schedules of those who have obligations during the day such as a career, going to school, or taking care of a family. Not only do evening sessions provide a good fit for people with this schedule, but it also provides much-needed structure during after-hours, when the temptation to use substances can be strong.

Loved ones can also benefit by attending family therapy sessions during convenient evening hours. Family therapy provides a neutral setting in which everyone can discuss the impact of addiction on the family and how to heal from it.

In addition, we believe in the power of therapy dogs and have several on-site to offer comfort and support to people working on their recovery.

Therapies Offered During Evening IOP Programs

The types of therapies we provide each offer specific ways to change how a person thinks and behaves. As a result, they become prepared to avoid the temptation to relapse and instead learn to live meaningful lives of sobriety. The therapies we offer include:

  • Adventure Therapy: Adventure therapy gets you out of the facility and into nature or a recreation center. This can help you build confidence and resilience as well as improve your physical well-being.
  • Exercise Program: Physical fitness is a vital part of recovery from addiction and dual-diagnosis disorders. Our exercise program can introduce you to a lifelong activity that will improve your overall wellness and recovery.
  • Trauma Therapy: Underlying traumatic experiences are common risk factors for developing an addiction or mental health disorder. Trauma therapy gives you coping skills to heal from these experiences.
  • Individual Therapy: One-on-one therapy is a cornerstone of any addiction treatment program. During individual therapy, you can work on improving your emotional and mental health.
  • Group Therapy: It’s vital to feel a sense of community and belonging during recovery. Group therapy helps you and your peers connect while a trained therapist facilities each session.
  • Holistic Therapy: Holistic approaches to treatment help you find new avenues to recovery by improving your physical and spiritual well-being, such as acupuncture and yoga.
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT): DBT treats a range of behavioral health disorders, including addiction. DBT can be part of your individual therapy as well as group sessions.

For those experiencing withdrawal symptoms, we can provide prescription medications that ease them. FDA-approved drugs can help alleviate both physical and emotional withdrawal symptoms, which makes staying sober easier.

How Do I Know Evening IOP is Right For Me?

Evening IOP works well for people who have obligations during the day that make attending daytime IOP impossible. Someone attending evening IOP still has their days free to work, go to school, take care of kids, or tend to other responsibilities. They then have the convenience of still getting the valuable help they need to treat their substance use disorders when it makes the most sense for their schedules.

The ideal candidate for evening IOP has a stable home life environment and is medically stabilized. They have already completed higher levels of care but still need the scaled-down schedule of treatment modalities that comes with IOP.
