What is Medcation-Assisted Treatment
At Lake Ave Recovery, we aim to help you recover through the entire treatment process. Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is a type of treatment for substance use disorders that combines medication with counseling and behavioral therapies. MAT is often used to treat opioid addiction, but can also be used for other substance use disorders such as alcohol or tobacco addiction.
What is MAT?
The medications used in MAT can help reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms, making it easier for individuals to stay in treatment and reduce their drug use. The medications used in MAT include methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone. Methadone and buprenorphine are both opioids that work by reducing withdrawal symptoms and cravings without producing the same high as other opioids. Naltrexone, on the other hand, blocks the effects of opioids and can be used to prevent relapse.
How is MAT used?
MAT is often used in conjunction with counseling and behavioral therapies, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) or contingency management. These therapies can help individuals develop coping skills and address the underlying issues that may have contributed to their substance use.
Is MAT Effective?
MAT has been shown to be effective in reducing opioid use, improving retention in treatment, and reducing the risk of overdose. However, it is important to note that MAT is not a one-size-fits-all solution, and individuals may respond differently to different medications and therapies. Lake Ave Recovery’s expert clinical staff will work closely with a healthcare provider to determine the best treatment plan for each individual.
Why Choose Lake Ave Recovery?
At Lake Avenue Recovery, we believe in providing each person who walks through our doors with personalized, compassionate, and evidence-based care because you are more than a statistic. We create a plan of care based on the person's individual needs in recovery and reject the idea of a "one-size-fits-all" system.
Our skilled medical and clinical staff use a comprehensive assessment to determine which level of treatment would be most suitable to ensure your loved one gets the help they deserve. Individuals will have the choice between Day Treatment Program/Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), Evening Treatment Program, and a flexible Outpatient Program.
We strongly believe in the importance of recovery maintenance and will continue to guide you on your journey even after you complete your treatment program, through aftercare planning and support group suggestions.
